Mission one completed successfully

Wednesday 26 May 2010 Pt Vila, Efate, Vanuatu

After a slow overnight sail from Erromango we finally tied up at the sea wall in Pt Vila early this afternoon much relieved that all medical transport commitments for Mission 1 had been achieved and all commitments to the medical volunteers fulfilled.

It was sad to see Andy depart so early in the mission after breaking a bone in his hand on the first day’s sail down to Aneityium, especially after participating in the hard work of actually delivering the boat from Sydney.

Another scratching was Matt Bryant who was to join the mission 1 crew however a cricketing accident before the mission began caused him to reluctantly pull out.

At the moment it’s about 9:30pm, we’ve just finished eating the lobster from Erromango (after destroying a burger and chips late this afternoon), and everyone has gone to sleep.  Iain and Ann have taken a room at the Sebel Hotel ashore and after enjoying a nice shower and modern amenities joined us for dinner aboard tonight.

It was pointed out tonight that there is only one person aboard who has not had a shower now and whilst I don’t want to give away any secrets, I should say that I plan to have a shower in the morning.

At the moment I’m exhausted and plan to lie down before I fall down.

Smooth seas, fair breeze and mission one down, two to go
